However, there will be opportunities for taking re-exams following Stockholm University’s rules and procedures. You can take the exam at the Department of Geological Sciences, Stockholm University or at any of the study centres (lärcentra) found here: www.nitus.se . If you are not located in Sweden, you may take the exam at the Swedish Embassy or Consulate.

The Structure

The course is structured into 8 moments of which 7 are designed to directly complement chapters in the book (written in brackets). Moment 8 is a case study showing application examples of marine geophysical mapping:

  • Moment 1 (Chapter 1): “History of marine geophysics and world ocean mapping”
  • Moment 2 (Chapter 2): “Offshore navigation”
  • Moment 3 (Chapter 3): “Speed of sound in the ocean”
  • Moment 4 (Chapter 3 and Paper: Mapping submarine glacial landforms using acoustic methods): “Principles of echo sounding methods”, “High resolution acoustic seafloor and sub-bottom mapping methods” and “Errors and artifacts”
  • Moment 5 (Chapters 4 and 5): “Marine seismic reflection and refraction methods”
  • Moment 6 (Chapter 6): “The marine gravity field”
  • Moment 7 (Chapter 7): “The Earth’s magnetic field at sea”
  • Moment 8 “Marine geophysical mapping of submarine glacial landforms”.
